We had the opportunity to attend the Phillip Jefferies spring-summer 2013 presentation hosted by Crown Wallpaper and Fabrics. What a feast for the eyes! Otaku is a Japanese word that means intense passion. Phillip Jefferies uses otaku to create innovative wallpaper. Their mission is to be the number one producer of hand crafted, environmentally conscious wallpaper. Having won numerous awards for their textural designs, Phillip Jefferies is always inspiring.
This season’s trends were inspired by culture and 1920s glamour. Whether in big doses or small, these amazing trends incorporate period charm into your home. Deco prints, metallic shine and heavy texture can seem over-powering. Try them in neutral colours. They add depth and ambiance. Don’t be afraid to add wallpaper to your ceilings or as framed art! They create memorable impact.
The Passport Collection features bold patterns and modern design. Crafted from natural properties like Manila Hemp, Linen, Japanese Paper Weave, Jute and Sateen Club they are a beautiful choice. Keep in mind they are prone to fading over time. Consider this when deciding if the space merits the investment.
The Metallic collections included a variety of different textures and effects. These collections created illusions such as marble and silk walls. Details included:
- Horizontal lines with multi layered metallic and matte inks
- Raffia matting laminated with metallic colouring
- Dyed Mica shavings
- Vertical and horizontal lines to create a 3-dimensional effect
- Fine Rayon yarns to create a metallic shine
- Granite and minerals applied to a paper backing with a resin coating
- Silk filaments woven with abaca that created an opulent colour
No matter the paper you choose, each is laminated with vinyl and secured with a paper backing. This eliminates curling and allows flexibility during installation. They also offer 56 different qualities of wallpaper to suit your needs. A common concern with wallpaper is humidity. It is advised to keep wallpaper in rooms with good ventilation and higher ceilings. Opt for water repellent finishes if you plan on incorporating wallpaper in guest bedroom.
